This is the start of the blog series for my work on my master’s capstone project. My partner, Sam, and I are creating an AI-powered fitness app that uses the camera to count reps and give feedback on exercise form. The camera workout will be controlled with voice commands. We are hoping this app will show how useful voice commands are in the realm of exercise apps, as well as develop an effective rep and set counting system. I am in charge of the front-end part of the app, and Sam is in charge of the back-end and AI parts of the app. Throughout our development process, I will post my experiences and the progress I make.
This month was mostly about fine-tuning our ideas for the app to make sure it is something we can do in the timeframe we have. The other part of our month was getting prepared for the project proposal presentation we had to do in front of the committee. Thankfully, the presentation went well, and we are free to start working on it.
I did start working on the app itself, and I have a few UI screens set up. I have a basic main menu screen and a way to open the front-facing camera on the device. I had done these screens in a different project, so they were not too hard to figure out and set up.

Overall, I think this month went really well. We have a lot of development work to do in the next few months, but I think we will be able to get it done.
